Which models count as like-for-like for a large SUV or 4x4?
A vehicle matching the material capabilities of yours: if you tow, the replacement needs the towing capacity and fittings; if you carry seven, it needs seven seats; if you genuinely use four-wheel drive, the replacement should have it. Stating those needs at the outset is what gets the match right (how supply works).
What will I not be given?
Not a compact crossover: a Qashqai-class car is a band below and does not replace seven seats or a 2,000 kg-plus towing limit. At the top of the band, Range Rover-class supply is prestige territory with its own honest limits — covered on the prestige & luxury page.
Do you need a large SUV or 4x4 replacement?
Need comes before class, and it is worth settling first. The Financial Ombudsman Service has said a referral into credit hire may not have been appropriate where it was clear a hire car was not needed — for example where a suitable spare car was available, where courtesy car cover was already sufficient, where the damaged car was still roadworthy and drivable, or where a policy already provided benefits at least as good. Towing capacity, seat count and genuine four-wheel-drive use are the needs here, and each is separately checkable. If you tow, say what and how heavy; if you carry seven, say how often.
