MPV and 7-seater replacement: what is usually supplied

If you drive a seven-seater, the seat count is the match: a family that travels seven-up cannot function in a five-seat car, and like-for-like supply recognises that. This is the GTA MPV band (groups M–M6, Scenic through Galaxy/Sharan-class examples; GTA Technical rate tables, gtacredithire.com) — though with traditional MPVs largely out of production, today's supply is mostly seven-seat SUVs.

Which models count as like-for-like for an MPV or 7-seater?
Anything genuinely carrying seven usable seats with comparable access — sliding doors matched where they matter to you (child seats, tight parking). A seven-seat SUV for a Galaxy is a fair modern match; the seat count is non-negotiable.
What will I not be given?
Not a five-seater "because the third row is rarely used" — if you carry seven, five seats is not like-for-like and you should say so at the outset. Occasional-seven compacts with token third rows are also a poor match for a full-size MPV; name your real seating use when the hire is arranged (how supply works).
Do you need a MPV or 7-seater replacement?
Need comes before class, and it is worth settling first. The Financial Ombudsman Service has said a referral into credit hire may not have been appropriate where it was clear a hire car was not needed — for example where a suitable spare car was available, where courtesy car cover was already sufficient, where the damaged car was still roadworthy and drivable, or where a policy already provided benefits at least as good. Seat count is the clearest need in the whole system, and the easiest to evidence. If you carry seven people, a five-seat vehicle does not meet the need, whatever else it does well.
