Medium hatchback replacement: what you will actually get

If you drive a medium hatchback — Golf, Focus, Astra, 308, Leon, Ceed — your replacement will come from the same band, and in practice that most often means a Golf, because it is the model fleets standardise on. In the GTA rate tables this is the group S3–S4 band (Astra/Focus examples; GTA Technical rate tables, gtacredithire.com).

Which models count as like-for-like for a medium hatchback?
Any C-segment five-door of equivalent engine and market position; a Focus for a Golf or a Leon for an Astra are all fair matches under the class system (how matching works). Mid-range fleet trims are the norm — expect touchscreen, smartphone mirroring, parking sensors and cruise control.
What will I not be given?
Not a supermini: a Corsa or Polo is a class below and is not like-for-like for a Golf driver — the size difference is the whole point of class matching. Nor performance versions: a GTI, ST or R-badged car sits in the sports groups (GTA SP4-band and above) and is not the match for a standard hatch.
